So a while back, maybe a year or so, my folks informed me of some odd, pretty feathers in our back yard so I went to investigate. They were about four or five long ones and a few small ones, all laying quite close to one another. My folks surmised that a cat had gotten after some poor bird, but there was no blood or any other evidence that I could see. I picked some of the more attractive feathers and put them on my altar table. I always wondered what bird they were from, and was having a heck of a time finding out.



I searched over eNature to list my local species and used google images to hunt photos of feathers. Sadly the closest thing I could find was turkey feathers, which are close, but since these are mottled and turkeys are not, I didn't think it was correct. Plus I live in a suburb and have never seen a wild turkey in my 13 years of living here, let alone right in my backyard. It's not impossible, but very unlikely.

Okay so I decided to search again just to be sure, and I've come to the conclusion that it's actually the Common Nighthawk, and the feathers I thought were mockingbird are actually of this same bird. I don't remember, but I think I found them in the same pile, which would make sense.

I declare this mystery solved.

I had to dig mine out of the closet because it got pretty damn cold today, but like all things worth journaling about, I have a quibble.

The material on the bottoms of fuzzy slippers isn't worth shit. >:C

It isn't durable at all. I've had two pairs of 'em both get holes in the fabric bottoms within two weeks of having them. Granted it doesn't help that my house has polished flagstone floors, but I've seen the same thing happen to friends that have carpet. I always end up taking some fabric glue and craft foam and sticking it to the hole-prone locations on the heel and toe. Very annoying.

In other news, I need some new curtains. The past few years of owning pet rats have rendered my previous set chewed to all hell. I guess that's my own fault for letting Aggy and Nana have free run of my windowsill.. The miniblind pullcord is all chewed up too so they don't go down all the way. Ffff.
Right now I've got my former way-too-big-for-my-altar-table altar cloth tacked up where curtains used to be, but it's super thin and doesn't keep the cold out at all. In fact I can see right through it during the day (which means other people can see in at night :[ good thing I live on a dead-end cauldesac in a good neighborhood.) I'll probably put this stupid wolf throw blanket back up there. Better than nothin'. I've still got my electric heater.

My hands are cold :C I can't type with gloves on.

So like, as of about 3am last night my fucking pits've been hurting. I looked and there's a lump in each, like a swollen lymph node. It's fucking weird, I've never had it happen before. I did shave like 12 hours prior but what the fuck. GODS THEY HURT. FAKJDLFKJJF. What the hell do I do for that? Strap icepacks to my underarms? I'm going to take some vitamin C before dinner. Maybe that'll help. For now, I'm gonna look for some painkillers or something.


I got my plush banette keychain in the mail yesterday. It's so derptastic. I'll have to take a photo of it once my derporita arrives. They can be derpfriends.

I guess I should start like.. adding them. Since I seem to be using this journal a little more. Not that I ever read other people's journals because I'm a butt like that, but whatever.

So the "apple green" DS Lite shell replacement came today. I decided to be a big girl and try putting it together myself. It wasn't so hard at all! Just tedious and kind of annoying, especially since the new screw holes were too small so I had to kinda twirl the screwdriver around in there to open them up enough to get the damn screws to go in.

But I got it all done without (much) hassle after about four hours tinkering, and it's pretty slick!

It's not too terribad though, I think. At least so far, anyway. I've got a light case of sniffles and one of the glands on the right side of my neck is all swollen ala ping-pong ball. And I feel a little feverish too. But at least I'm not barfing or shitting my brains out.

I got some chicken ramen I put some chunks of leftover chicken into and I've got Pandora blaring nice New Age tunes at me and I am mildly content. And tomorrow is October 1st! Yeeey.

Can you believe the stores all have Christmas shit on display already? That was on the news this evening. It's like.. geez, let the other holidays come and go first. I am so close to joining my dad in wanting to boycott Christmas. I just want it to be a nice, quiet holiday like it was originally meant to be. I read a story once about someone trying to do just that, cuddle up with a good book in front of a warm fire and think of plans for the coming Spring, but couldn't because she was bombarded with all the holly jolly in your face nonsense from every direction... Some people complain about people taking the Christ out of Christmas; folks like me complain about people taking the Yule out of Yuletide... :[ but that's another matter entirely. I'm just tired of all the WHAT YOU WANT. WHAT YOU WANT FOR CHRISTMAS. TOO SLOW. SAD CHRISTMAS. type of hoohah. Tone it down, plz :C


Kesler wants me to redo the hood on his hoodie. It was a little too big for his liking, even though I followed the measurements he wanted. Oh well. At least it's not an intricate fix. Easy peasy. The zippers I ordered should be in this week, or early next week at the latest. c:

So I went to the state fair for the first time in like twelve years today. It was pretty fun despite not doing much. Also I discovered that the rides aren't as pants crappingly scary as I was led to believe they were.

My folks never took us to fairs as kids, and we certainly never got to ride the rides if we did go somewhere that had them. The most I ever got to ride was the carousel at the mall, and one of those babby roller coasters once that I didn't even get to enjoy because my brother was so terrified that they had to stop it and get him off not 10 seconds into it.

So of course I wasn't really thrilled about going to the fair tonight, since rides 'weren't my thing'. But they were pretty cool and not at all scary. 'Course, there was no way in hell I was going on the two that flung you up and dropped you straight down. Fuck that shit, that's my nightmare D:


I'm almost done with Kesler's shinx hoodie C: I need to cut out and sew the hood and tail parts together, then buy and attach the zipper and some pockets and it'll be dooone. Then I can make my banette hoodie~

...after I finish this hat someone commissioned me for. It's a Marx hat like the first one I made, but in more accurate colours. Easy peasy. The part I hate is sewing on all those little fucking circles and triangles, fffff.

Lulz, I was right. I totally got all of my packages yesterday. And I managed to get them into the house without my parents knowing. IT WAS A GOOD DAY INDEED.

So was browsing the GTS today and I got a SHINY FUCKING BAGON in exchange for my Drapion. Its probably hax0r'd, but I don't care |D It appurntly hatched from an egg from the daycare couple, not that that's a guarantee against hax. It seems normal enough, though. Either way its fucking cool :D

I got some totally legit starters from Volmise over on the pkmncollectors comm. She does like TCG events or somesuch and she did a shiny starter giveaway event recently and let us have some too <3 I gots me a charmander, chikorita, and cyndaquil and they are bootiful *rubs DS on face*

SPEAKING OF SHINY THINGS. I bought a green replacement shell for my DS Lite :B No more will it be boring and white. It will be neon fucking green, hell yeah. I can't wait to get it. Kesler's gon' help me put it together. I hope we don't break any wires, I read that a couple of them are pretty fragile :x

I should be getting my Glameow doll today, too! I may not even go to sleep |D too excited. I wanna be awake when the mail comes so I can run out and snatch it hopefully before my parents see that I've spent money on more useless stuff, hurp durp~

It's akin to putting "no offense" onto a obviously offensive statement as if adding it will someone make it hurt less.

I hate that... It drives me crazy.

I've bitched about this in the past to friends and stuff, but it's still an issue. One that pisses me right the fuck off.

The rubber grip on the pen of my Graphire4 tablet is literally disintegrating. It's torn and split and melting away.

I've managed to save the crater that's been worn into it (so far) by wrapping it in electrical tape, but it's not going to last forever. I've already replaced the tape once.

Now, "replace it!" is what a normal person would say in such a situation, right? Right. Except the only thing I can replace is the whole fucking pen, which would run me $30 plus shipping from Wacom's site, and it wouldn't even be the same model of pen. Screw them. I'm not rewarding their mistake with more of my precious jewgold. The newer Intuos models apparently come with extra nibs AND grips, but I'll be damned if I'm going to spend a couple hundred dollars on a whole new tablet I don't need all because the rubber on my still-working pen is falling apart. I don't think so.

I bought a Halloween Glameow pokédoll a couple days ago and it came today! It's only the cutest thing ever, oh my gods. It's got a little witchy hat and a bowtie with a jackolantern in the middle. I'll take pictures of it once the rest of the things I bought come in the mail, that way I can just make one big collection update... that is, provided I don't keep buying more things before everything else has gotten here |D

I'm trying hard not to, since I still need a new computer case. The one I have is okay but the fans are noisy and it still gets pretty warm in there even they're cranked up to max. And did I mention it's noisy? Little irksome to be able to hear it with headphones on. The new case + fans will be like $90 x_x (unless I can catch it on sale again).

For a self-described jew, I sure do love shopping. If there were no reprocussions in the form of my parents nagging me for buying crap, I'd have SO MUCH MORE CRAP by now. Even if that were true, I'm still a stingy prick about cost. For instance, that $3.50 pencil topper? You should have seen me do the magical sacred jew-dance of indecision before I caved and bought it. It's those pesky shipping charges! The thing only cost $1.50 (which my senses tell me was still a lot for a goddamn pencil topper) but there was an extra two dollars tacked on for shipping. Also Paypal fees, which are absurd to begin with.

I still gotta vaccuum the rugs in the living room today. Tippy's balding all over them at an alarming rate. Poor baby. She'll be naked again by the time winter rolls around. Then she'll have to wear that embarrassing coat my mom made her |D It's actually quite nice, but since it's so long (so it reaches her nakedbutt) it tends to flop off to the side and look generally retarded. It needs straps back there or something.

I gotta go get the vaccuum back from my sister in law next door. She supposedly cleaned it and claims it works again, so I gotta stop being lazy and clean the doghair off the carpets now.

Anyway, I switched FA accounts recently. What saddens me is that only 1/3 of the people followed me to it. Only about 220 out of an original 660 or so. Now, I understand that not everyone checks their messages every day, not everyone reads journals, some accounts go dead, blah blah blah.. but it's been a while and 400 is a rather large number of people. My guess is that those 400 people were just expecting me to someday give in and start drawing porn.. I wouldn't at all be surprised by that. Even stranger is that I find people continuing to +Watch my old account but not the new one. I.. this confuses me greatly. Right there on my front page, and even in my icon is says I moved to the new account. Why the hell are people adding a dead account?

Now the other thing, I don't typically baww about comments or lack thereof, but.. there is a significant lack than what I had on the old account. Probably just the staggering lack of watchers.. :C It used to be that when I'd post a commission journal I'd get at least ONE reply with the hour. Now I don't even get one within 24 hours. Not even the HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL subject line of "Animal Abuse" garnered any attention.

I'm probably just very impatient, and maybe I'm reading too much into things, but I almost feel like people stopped following me because I "renounced my furryness." Like maybe my big fat thoughtful journal about how I'd rather not have a durrsona and about how I believe that "furry" is more of a lifestyle than a hobby somehow offended everyone. That.. kinda doesn't speak much for the intelligence of those 400 missing people and I hope I'm wrong, but I can't shake the feeling. I'm not ungrateful for the people who do continue to watch me, and I don't plan on omg leeving 4evars, but I just.. get kinda down about it sometimes. Typical 'baww im so underappreciated' wank.

On a related note, I've had two people ask me for stabby icons recently. Apparently no one knows I publicly announced "I'm not doing any more of these" last year in November. I've tried coming up with other icon ideas but they go unnoticed, just like everything else. I can't even sell one-dollar sketches..

Still have some commissions to finish. No worries there. I've just been slow and lazy and filled with angst and rage over various things. I'll get 'em done.
